Rekindling the Council Fire of the 1701

Planning and Discussion Meeting to be held at the Gathering Place, 2593 Chiefswood Rd. Six Nations 10am-4pm, Sunday. Dec 11, 2022.

In 1701 over 39 Indigenous nations sent 1,300 delegates to Montreal to make a Great Peace in the lands knowns as the Sewatohkwat or the Dish with One Spoon Treaty. This treaty brought an end to the Beaver wars in the Great Lakes region, ended over 100 years of conflict between Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee people and made peace with the French.

Kanenhariyo speaks about the purpose of the Dec 11th meeting.

Beginning at 10am on Sunday, December 11th, 2022, join descendants of the 39 Indigenous nations present at the 1701 treaty to discuss how to rekindle the Council Fire of the 1701 and how to advance sovereign Indigenous rights in the Beaver Bowl.
